Trader PhD Marketing Coordinator Macy reflects on her experiences in the pork industry and agriculture and the importance of advocacy.

October brings vibrant festivities–- Halloween, haunted houses, pumpkin carving, and a celebration that’s close to my heart: National Pork Month!

The pork industry has shaped my life in countless ways, both personally and professionally. My journey began as a little girl when my dad encouraged me to participate in 4H and later FFA, showing pigs and cattle. Much of my time was also spent on my family’s wean-to-finish operation, where my love for the industry truly blossomed. During farrowing time each year, countless hours were spent alongside my dad and sisters, ensuring the sows and piglets were comfortable. This annual tradition solidified my connection to the industry.

Fast forward to college at Iowa State, I further immersed myself in the agricultural industry and pork industry specifically–-completing my first internship in production with Iowa Select Farms. This allowed me to gain an even deeper appreciation for the hard work producers put into maintaining the highest standards in our facilities.

Although my love for this industry later led me to a career in communications, I remain passionate and dedicated to advocating for agriculture. I have had the privilege of contributing to the industry in so many ways, and nothing is more rewarding than doing my part to help sustain it.

I am excited to take this next step in my career as a Marketing Coordinator with Trader PhD, where I look forward to continuing my passion for agriculture by providing farmers with valuable media coverage and commodity market insights, particularly focused on pork.

I believe it is essential for those with a background in the agriculture industry to stay connected, advocate, and find meaningful ways to be involved. The opportunities are endless, offering something for everyone. Through this dedication, we can help foster a stronger industry and provide the support that producers deserve.
